The House of Staunton is proud to offer the Zagreb '59 Series Chess set. A full tournament-sized Chess set, it features a 3.875" King with a 1.75" diameter base. The Chess pieces are hand carved by our master artisans and crafted out of the highest grade woods. The Chess pieces are heavily weighted with luxurious billiard cloth base pads and a beautiful finish. The design of the Zagreb '59 Chess set is an adaptation of the most popular Chess set used at major international Chess tournaments throughout the 1950s and 1960s, most notably the World Championship Candidates Match that was held in Bied, Zagreb in 1959.

What is an imperfect set

Imperfect consists of items that are deemed below the House of Staunton's already high quality standards.  Because these products do not meet or exceed our inspection standards, we are able to pass enormous savings to you!

  • The Black Lacquered Rook has some chipped paint on the base and a scuff on the midsection (As seen in photographs).
  • The Black Lacquered Pawn has a line in the finish on its midsection (As seen in photographs).
  • The Gold Lacquered Bishops are missing their finials (As seen in photographs).
  • The Gold Lacquered Knight has a dent on the side (As seen in photographs).
  • The Gold Lacquered Rook has a blemish on the top (As seen in photographs).
  • There may be other minor imperfections not pictured.
