The Chess pieces are hand carved by our master artisans and crafted out of the highest grade woods. The Chess pieces are heavily weighted with luxurious billiard cloth base pads and a beautiful finish. As with all of our Chess sets, the Dubrovnik Series Chessmen exemplifies a perfect combination of distinct beauty and functionality. It has been designed to withstand the rigors of practical play while maintaining an elegance which has become the hallmark of a House of Staunton chess set. The design, quality and craftsmanship of this set is UNMATCHED by any set of Chessmen in its price range. Nothing even comes close!

The Chessmen are new and each set consists of 34 Chessmen, including four Queens, a standard that was introduced by The House of Staunton over 10 years ago.

THE CHESSBOARD

Crafted in Spain, the House of Staunton Standard Traditional Rosewood / Bird's Eye Maple wooden Chessboard with 2.25" squares features Rosewood (dark) and Bird's Eye Maple (light) squares with a Mahogany frame. This veneered Chessboard is 0.5" thick and has a satin finish. This board has a 22.5" x 22.5" footprint.

THE CHESSBOX

The Premium Chess Box has been designed by the experts at the House of Staunton to perfectly hold your favorite chessmen, up to a 4.4” king height with additional queens. It features brass quadrant hinges, green billiard cloth lining, and a lock and key with tassel.

    100% worth every penny

    This might legitimately be the nicest chess set I have ever come across in my life. Every piece feels incredibly satisfying to hold and move (having a high quality wood board definitely helps with that). It really helps me with immersing myself into games. They're also extremely well detailed and beautiful to look at (notably the bishops and knights, but that's just me personally). Very good size and weight too. I got the purpleheart version, and somehow it looks even better than in the photos. It's also pretty historically accurate, so that's nice

    It is a big investment though and you really do have to take as best care of it as possible if you care about the collector aspect (do your research before getting it). You also have to dedicate a decent sized space to it too since the board is very large. But if you love otb chess and have the money and space, I think this is definitely worth the investment. Dubrovnik style is definitely the way to go imo

    100x better than the pictures

    Everything felt incredibly high quality, from the unboxing to the way the pieces feel in your hands. The way the rooks, bishops, and knights feel as you hold them is perfect. The pieces, and especially the board, looks so much better in person than in the pictures. The only knock would be that they don't match the set that they are supposed to replicate very well. If you want historical accuracy, I'd go to Staunton Castle but if you want a beautiful, high quality set that looks similar to the Dubrovnik design, this is perfect.
