Book Description

Although Rashid Nezhmetdinov (1912-1974) was not widely known in the West, his games have a great reputation among connoisseurs of attacking play. Among his many distinctions in chess are his score of six wins, nine draws and five losses against World Champions.

As former World Champion Mikhail Tal wrote: "With the passage of time tournament tables tend to lose interest, but some games played in these tournaments live forever, and in this respect Nezhmetdinov is one of the most richly endowed players. I have played four games with the Tatar master and the score is 3-1 in his favor."

David Bronstein also sang his praises: "Rashid Nezhmetdinov is a virtuoso of combinational chess."

Both Tal and Bronstein acclaimed the Russian editions of this work, now translated into English for the first time. Containing over 100 of Nezhmetdinov's best games with his own annotations, this book will be welcomed by all lovers of imaginative chess.

Customer Reviews

Compelling, sacrificial chess Review by Nicolas
One of the most entertaining chess books I have read. Most games are lightly annotated but this doesn't take away from the selection of games at all. Some of the highlights are more thorough in the notes and some explanation of opening considerations is usually given. There are some really great all out attacks in this book but also a good amount of instructive endgames. I am not all the way through the book yet but have been going through games in binge like fashion. I just can't put this book down! (Posted on 10/1/2017)
