To pamper you, The House of Staunton is proud to offer the Collector II Series Luxury Chess set. This full-tournament sized Chess set features. A full tournament-sized Chess set, it features a 4.0" King with a 1.8" diameter base. The Chess pieces are hand carved by our master artisans and crafted out of the highest grade woods. The Chess pieces are heavily weighted with billiard cloth base pads and a beautiful finish. The Collector II Series Luxury Chess set has been crafted to replicate the design and proportions of the original Staunton pattern Chessmen, registered by Nathaniel Cooke in March of 1849 and first manufactured by Jaques of London in September 1849. The distinctive feature of this set is the the open-mitered Bishop and Knight design, which is modeled after the noble steeds from the Greek Parthenon (Elgin Marbles.).
Each set consists of 34 Chessmen, including four Queens, a standard that was introduced by The House of Staunton in 1993.
What is an imperfect set
Imperfect consists of items that are deemed below the House of Staunton's already high quality standards. Because these products do not meet or exceed our inspection standards, we are able to pass enormous savings to you!
The inspection for this set details the following:
- The Blood Rosewood Knight has lacquer issues on the midsection (As seen in photographs).
- The Natural Boxwood Knight has tool marks on the midsection (As seen in photographs).
- The Natural Boxwood Knight has dents on the spine (As seen in photographs).
- The Natural Boxwood Pawn has tool marks on the head and midsection (As seen in photographs).
- Some of the pieces could have very minor chips and/or dings/dents or minor imperfections (cosmetic blemishes) in the wood.
