To pamper you, The House of Staunton is proud to offer the Collector Series Luxury Chess set. This full-tournament sized Chess set features. A full tournament-sized Chess set, it features a 4.4" King with a 1.9" diameter base. The Chess pieces are hand carved by our master artisans and crafted out of the highest grade woods. The Chess pieces are heavily weighted with gold embossed English Leather base pads under the Kings, luxurious billiard cloth base pads on the other Chess pieces and a beautiful finish. The Collector Series Luxury Chess set has been crafted to replicate the design and proportions of the original Staunton pattern Chessmen, registered by Nathaniel Cooke in March of 1849 and first manufactured by Jaques of London in September 1849. The distinctive feature of this set is the the open-mitered Bishop and Knight design, which is modeled after the noble steeds from the Greek Parthenon (Elgin Marbles.).

It has been designed to withstand the rigors of practical play while maintaining an elegance which has become the hallmark of a House of Staunton chess set. What is an imperfect set

Imperfect consists of items that are deemed below the House of Staunton's already high quality standards.  Because these products do not meet or exceed our inspection standards, we are able to pass enormous savings to you!

 

The inspection for this set details the following:

  • The Genuine Ebony King has a crack on the base (As seen in photographs).
  • The Genuine Ebony Queen has a crack in the base (As seen in photographs).
  • The other Genuine Ebony Queen, left, has been replaced and does not match the rest of the set (As seen in photographs).
  • The Genuine Ebony Bishop has a dent in the headpiece (As seen in photographs).
  • The Genuine Ebony Knight has a crack in the base (As seen in photographs).
  • The Blood Rosewood Pawn has a crack in the base (As seen in photographs).
  • Some of the pieces could have very minor chips and/or dings/dents or minor imperfections (cosmetic blemishes) in the wood.
