The Chess pieces are hand carved by our master artisans and crafted out of the highest grade woods. The Chess pieces are heavily weighted with luxurious billiard cloth base pads on the other Chess pieces and a beautiful finish. The design of the St. Petersburg Series Chess set embodies the form, board presence and craftsmanship of one of the most celebrated turn-of-the-century designs from Jaques of London. The House of Staunton has recaptured the essence of these magnificent Chessmen and made them available on a very limited basis. As with all of our Chess sets, the St. Petersburg Series exemplifies a perfect combination of distinct beauty and functionality. Imperfect consists of items that are deemed below the House of Staunton's already high quality standards.  Because these products do not meet or exceed our inspection standards, we are able to pass enormous savings to you!

 

The inspection for this set details the following:

  • The Genuine Ebony Queen has a large crack in the base (As seen in photographs).
  • The Genuine Ebony Queen, left, has been replaced and may not exactly match the rest of the set (As seen in photographs).
  • The Genuine Ebony Bishop has a dent on the base (As seen in photographs).
  • The Genuine Ebony Knight has a scratch on the midsection (As seen in photographs).
  • The Genuine Ebony Rook has a discoloration at the top (As seen in photographs).
  • The Genuine Ebony Pawn has a crack along the base (As seen in photographs).
  • The other Genuine Ebony Pawn has a hairline crack along the base (As seen in photographs).
  • The Natural Boxwood King has tool marks near the base (As seen in photographs).
  • The Natural Boxwood Queen has a tool mark on the midsection (As seen in photographs).
  • The Natural Boxwood Knight has a tool mark on the base (As seen in photographs).
  • The Natural Boxwood Rook has a tool mark near the base (As seen in photographs).
  • The two Natural Boxwood Pawns have tool marks near the base (As seen in photographs).
  • The Natural Boxwood Pawn has a chip on the base (As seen in photographs).
  • Some of the pieces could have very minor chips and/or dings/dents or minor imperfections (cosmetic blemishes) in the wood.
