These late Victorian Austrian coffeehouse chess sets, also known as Old Vienna or Viennese Coffeehouse chess sets, have an elegant charm and had a ubiquitous presence through parts of Europe extending into the 20th Century. The King of our exquisite recreation stands 4″ tall and are pleasantly weighted.
What is an imperfect set
Imperfect consists of items that are deemed below the House of Staunton's already high quality standards. Because these products do not meet or exceed our inspection standards, we are able to pass enormous savings to you!
The inspection for this set details the following:
- The Natural Lacquered Queen has a tool mark around the collar (As seen in photographs).
- The Black Lacquered King has some damaged lacquer on the midsection (As seen in photographs).
- The Black Lacquered Rook has damaged finish on the base (As seen in photographs).
- The Natural Lacquered Bishop has a dark mark in the finish on the base (As seen in photographs).
- Both Black Lacquered Knights have a crack on the base (As seen in photographs).
- The Black Lacquered Pawn has damaged finish on the base (As seen in photographs).
- The other Black Lacquered Pawn has a crack on the base (As seen in photographs).
- Some of the pieces could have very minor chips and/or dings/dents or minor imperfections (cosmetic blemishes) in the wood.
