Description
Agreement made this 25th day of December, 1885, by and between William Steinitz of New York and J. H. Zukertort of London, to play a match at chess for the Championship of the World and a stake of $2,000 a side.
That the said match, up to a point where either party shall have scored 4 gamesshall be played under the auspices of the Manhattan Chess Club of New York; that the second part of the match, up to a point where either party shall have added three won games, shall be played under the auspices of the St. Louis Chess, Checker and Whist Club, and shall begin within one week after the conclusion of the play at New York; that the third and last part of the match shall be played under the auspices of the New Orleans Chess Club and shall begin within two weeks after the conclusion of the play at St. Louis.
