CLEARANCE - Grandmaster's Tournament - New York 1927Product Code: CB0490RB
One of the strongest tournaments of all time took place at New York from the 19th of February to the 23rd of March 1927. Only the World Champion - Capablanca - abd his nearest rivals - Alekhine, Marshall, Nimzovich, Spielmann and Vidmar - were invited to take part. Whoever finished above Capablanca could challenge from whoever finished second. With play taking the form of mini-matches (each contestant met the others four times.), the tournament was expected to give a foretaste of what might happen in a World Championship match.
Tartakover's book is still virtually unknown in the West, and therein lies the interest of the present work. In addition, our editorial comments (shown by 'RR') cover points not discussed by Tartakover and, where necessary, correct his notes. Overall the result is the most thorough survey of all the games from this unique event.
