This DVD by Lubomir Ftacnik is an ambitious project, presenting a comprehensive set of ideas and structures in chess openings, arising after the first move 1.d4.
1. d4 - A Classical Repertoire for White - Lubomir Ftacnik
While almost everybody is spending 95% of his opening preparation time on major lines, there are some tricky players including strong GMs (I am not an exception) who prepare for their opponents some side lines, which contain many an underwater reef. I decided to collect those secondary openings in one single DVD. From now on openings such as the Pirc, the Scandinavian and the Alekhine Defences will not appear to you in your nightmares any more. The 1.e4 player should be actually thank Black for choosing these openings, since he is providing White with a better centre, a stable advantage and generally speaking pleasant play. The only thing White needs to do is to spend some time studying the lines. I will not bother you with encyclopaedic approach. There is a more practical way.
1. e4 - How to Tame the Alekhine, Scandinavian and Pirc - Viktor Bologan
Playing 1.e4 with White is often associated with having to know reams of opening theory but this does not have to be the case.
1. e4 for the Creative Attacker - Nigel Davies
In this DVD, Sam Collins offers another way. Discussing sound, aggressive lines, all with regular top-level support from GMs Tiviakov, Howell, Pavasovic and others, Collins breaks down each position into its key components and explains the core plans and ideas, together with enough theory to avoid any accidents and catch your opponents by surprise.
1. e4 Repertoire - Sam Collins - Grandmaster Lines Explained for Club Players
Many players struggle to find solid openings to play as Black, especially if they have relatively little time to study theory. This DVD addresses this problem, presenting a solid and easy to learn Black repertoire against White’s two main opening moves, 1.e4 and 1.d4.
1. e6 - A Solid Repertoire Against 1. d4 and 1. e4 - Nigel Davies
1.Nf3 - a variable Repertoire for White is the name for a comprehensive opening system strategy based on security and choice. The old maxim of perceiving 1.e4 openings as tactical and more dangerous as opposed to the more positional and peaceful 1.d4 openings no longer reflects the modern world of chess openings. This repertoire DVD is the fruit of a lifetime's experience, as the author Lubomir Ftacnik uses it actively in his practice. The system gives all White players the chance to fine-tune the level of exposure and risk

1...d6 can be used as a universal defense against every White opening.
1...d6 Universal - Nigel Davies
For young and developing players a very important piece of advice is to study open positions and to understand the value of coordination of the pieces plus the role of the centre. These goals can be achieved just by answering 1.e4 with 1...e5. Some players claim that these positions are not sharp and interesting enough, and they believe that different Sicilians should be one’s choice, but that is not completely correct. The idea of this DVD is to show that 1.e4 e5 can be extremely entertaining and that Black can obtain interesting counterplay in every opening. There are two lines proposed in the Spanish systems plus the most active alternatives against other white choices. Video running time: 6 h 48 min. Video sample System requirements Pentium-Processor at 300 Mhz or higher, 64 MB RAM, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, DVD drive, mouse, soundcard
1.e4 e5 - An Active Repertoire for Black - Adrian Mikhalchishin
In this extended update of the ChessBase mating course, Lubomir Ftacnik initiates you into the fine art of mating your opponent. In four videos the grandmaster explains typical mating patterns. At the same time, two small collections of material allow systematic assimilation of the subject of delivering mate. After that, it is all about answering the training questions in 1000 mating exercises.

Many club players have their favourite pet opening variations which aren’t necessarily main lines. It’s important to know how to handle these variations as your opponent will likely know his systems well. In this DVD I provide a detailed Black repetoire against many of these Offbeat Opening choices. The lines I have covered include Pseudo – Trompowsky (1.d4 d5 2. Bg5), London Systems (1.d4 with an early Bf4), Torre Attack (1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 e6 and 3. Bg5), Veresov (1.d4 Nf6 2. Nc3 d5 3. Bg5), Blackmar-Diemer Gambit (1.d4 d5 2. e4), Kings Indian Attack (1.Nf3 2.g3 3. Bg2), 1.b4, 1.b3, 1.f4, 1.g3 and 1.g4.
A Black Repertoire Against Offbeat Openings - GM Nicholas Pert
On this DVD Nigel Davies addresses this issue by demonstrating a simple and easy to learn opening system designed for the busy person.

The French Defence is the sharpest opening setup against 1.e4. With his first two moves, e6 and d5, Black tries to provoke the advance e4-e5. This closes the centre and gives Black the opportunity to get active play on both wings.
GM Yannick Pelletier is a specialist of this opening, and believes that the most efficient way to understand its ideas, plans, and typical structures is to study classical lines. He offers you a repertoire that is based on well-established lines that have been tried and tested for decades and that have proven their validity.

This DVD concentrates on the increasingly popular 5.Bf4 variation of the Queen’s Gambit Declined and gives White a dynamic and aggressive weapon against Black’s set-up. White puts his bishop on f4 to avoid the exchanges that often occur after 5.Bg5 and as early as possible wants to put pressure on Black. At the highest level the variation with 5.Bf4 has become much more popular than the more traditional 5.Bg5 line. Top players such as Alexei Shirov, Vladimir Kramnik, Levon Aronian, Wesley So and Anish Giri play it, and Vishy Anand used it in his only victory over Carlsen in the 2014 World Chess Championship. This DVD recommends dynamic lines for White against all set-ups by Black and gives you a good, aggressive, and reliable weapon against the Queen’s Gambit Declined.

The Najdorf is one of the most dangerous variations of the Sicilian Defense. Fighting against it is always difficult, but GM Tiviakov demonstrates a very effective way to combat this popular opening. Crafty players take the fight to their opponents on their own terms, and starting with 2.Nc3 you’ll learn how to take Najdorf connoisseurs into nebulas territory where they may quickly lose their way.
A Nightmare for the Najdorf - Sergei Tiviakov
For years the only correct way to play against the Sicilian was to tackle it head-on with the Open Sicilian (i.e. when white plays an early d4). In recent years, some of the worlds best players have started to essay some dangerous anti Sicilian lines, with great success. In this Master & Amateur DVD, International Master Lorin D’Costa and chess software expert Nick Murphy outline the various “anti-Sicilians”. These openings can give you a potential advantage, whilst avoiding your opponent’s favourite Sicilian line.

The Queen’s Indian Defense is one of the most solid and rich openings against 1.d4. Together with the Nimzo-Indian and the Catalan it forms the so called “Classical Setup”, which any player should know. The Queen’s Indian is a favorite of both top players and amateurs. Victor Bologan has enjoyed the advantages of the Queen’s Indian defense for many years in open and in top tournament. He says: “The soul of the opening, the most important piece, is course the bishop on b7. Please remember this and keep it active.” Every chess enthusiast, from beginner to high level player, can profit from this DVD. Enrich your chess vocabulary, be open to new ideas: Play the Queen’s Indian!

Back in the 1950s, it was Botvinnik who popularised the Exchange Variation of the Queen’s Gambit Declined. The setup, which involves putting the knight on e2 in combination with castling kingside, was revolutionary at that time. Until then, White had either placed his knight on f3 with the idea of s tarting a minority attack on the queenside, or on e2, where it was normally associated with the intention of castling queenside and preparing a pawn storm against the Black King. K asparov, Botvinnik’s pupil, would soon follow in his mentor’s footsteps, bringing yet further refinements to this flexible system.

A Complete Repertoire for White
It is easy to understand why the English Opening is very popular at all levels, from club player up to Grandmaster level. The variations are less forcing and superior chess skill is required to outwit your opponents in the middlegame. In the English, white plays 1.c4 and fianchettos the white kings bishop to g2. Like all good chess openings, this fights for control of the centre and posts the ‘English Bishop’ on the long diagonal g2-a8. Many people view the opening as rather dull, but this is a misnomer - in fact, there are many sharp pawn sacrifices and attacking lines which have been found in recent times which give the opening some bite. The games in this DVD will provide with exactly that - the armoury to play the English Opening as white with confidence! Includes all of black's main responses to the English Opening 1.c4:
