The Four Knights has a rich and distinguished history. Like a fine wine, the Four Knights only improves with age, establishing itself as an extremely effective way of meeting 1...e5. On the outside this opening seems deceptively quiet, yet apparently natural moves can often lead to some devastating attacks. This DVD takes you through everything that you need to know in order to play this opening with confidence, starting with calm options and then moving on to the outrageous Belgrade opening.
Rocket Repertoire - The Four Knights - Simon Williams
In this 7th Power Play DVD, Daniel King helps you to recognize when a piece is poorly placed and what to do about it. Throughout the DVD, specially selected positions will enable you to test your understanding of the subject.

Attacking the King for Experts - Rustam Kasimdzhanov
He was a child prodigy and he is surrounded by legends. In his best times he was considered to be unbeatable and by many he was reckoned to be the greatest chess talent of all time: Jose Raul Capablanca, born 1888 in Havana. At the age of 13 he became Cuban champion; in 1909 he sensationally defeated Marshall by 8:1 and was thus catapulted into the world elite. It was only after some time, since only sparse amounts of information made it across the pond, that in 1911 Capablanca achieved well-deserved recognition by leaving the elite of world chess trailing in his wake in San Sebastian. It would however take another 10 years before the Cuban defeated the reigning world champion Emanuel Lasker in their match and wore the crown himself.
MASTER CLASS - Jose Raul Capablanca - Volume 4
On this DVD Davies examines the modern treatment of the Italian with 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 followed by 4.d3 and then usually the c2-c3 pawn advance.
Attack with the Modern Italian - Nigel Davies
This French Defence DVD is a complete attacking opening repertoire for black after 1.e4 e6. GM Nick Pert has played the French defence his whole life and provides all his latest and most up to date analysis crammed into 1 DVD. Nick has spent thousands of hours studying the best French lines, and he explains the pick of the bunch for the cost of a DVD. It almost seems like daylight robbery! In addition to the usual video explanations of the French there are some interactive clips where the viewer is tested on a range of theoretical questions and tactics arising from French Defence games.
The French Defence for the Tournament Player - Nicholas Pert
Widely regarded as a positional opening, the English essentially features a tight connection between strategy and tactics or, as an even more fateful description, between statics and dynamics. Play starts in a slow mode, indeed, with White trying to set up a control over the light squares with the help of his mighty bishop on g2, but later a crucial moment inevitably arises when concrete decisions are needed to crown his previous strategic play. Depending on the situation, this may be an unexpected combination, switching to dynamic play or to an apparently different plan. But a well conducted English opening game ideally looks like a harmonious whole, with strategy and tactics as two facets of the same truth. The tests included on this DVD are aimed at explaining all these aspects, actively involving the viewer into the process. While the material is structured according to general patterns and structures, the character of the solutions (tactical or strategic, for instance) varies depending on the concrete circumstances in each example. This DVD is a good way to refresh your repertoire as well as to start with the English and get an idea of how to play the opening without learning tons of theory.
The English Opening - Tactic and Strategy Toolbox - Mihail Marin
If you want to improve your strategic skills and your defensive techniques, there just is no better teacher than Tigran Petrosian. Let our authors (Yannick Pelletier, Mihail Marin, Karsten Müller and Oliver Reeh) introduce you into the world of Tigran Petrosian.
MASTER CLASS - Tigran Petrosian - Volume 13
Despite the advances in computing power, gambit play is still very common, especially among young players, club players and improvers, and it is wise to learn how to defend against these dangerous ideas. You do not want to be wiped out in the opening! On Meeting the Gambits Vol. 1; Gambits after 1.e4, FIDE Senior Trainer Andrew Martin provides you with an excellent selection of repertoire choices and teaches you the right approach to take against gambiteers. Do not let them have their way! You may see this as a course in defensive and counterattacking technique.
Meeting the Gambits - Gambits after 1. e4 - Andrew Martin - Volume 1
There are a number of good Anti-Sicilian options out there, however I believe the 2.b3 Sicilian to be one of the most overlooked and underrated systems available to White. This modest move came back to the fore as a legitimate Anti-Sicilian weapon when none other than Vladimir Kramnik used it in a few games to frustrate his Sicilian diehard opponents.
The Baffling 2.b3 Sicilian - Lawrence Trent
Starting out in chess is difficult, and this DVD aims to reduce that stress. Designed for beginner levels in openings, I hope to give a brief introduction to the reasons we play some of the most common moves in popular openings like the Spanish and Sicilian.
Fundamentals of Chess Openings - Qiyu Zhou
The Petroff (or Russian) Defence which is characterised by the moves 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 has been popular at the highest levels for many years and enjoys the reputation of being an extremely solid defence. As with many openings favoured by the world elite, there is a sharp contrast between the sidelines (in which understanding plays the most critical role) and the theoretical battleground of the main lines where experience and knowledge of plans are needed, but also a high degree of concrete knowledge. This DVD aims to present this knowledge in a structured way, so that players can pick exactly what they need. This is interspersed with discussions of structural themes and annotated games. Two particular structures are discussed in great detail.
The Reliable Petroff - An Evergreen Elite Choice - Daniel Fernandez
Shirov’s uncompromising style of play is also reflected in his manner of commenting his own games.

The Queen’s Gambit Declined (“QGD”) has arguably been the most important opening in World Championship matches and elite tournaments for over a century. On this DVD, Sam Collins presents a repertoire for Black based on the rock-solid Lasker variation, reinvigorated with new ideas by former World Champion Vishy Anand and forming the cornerstone of many strong GM repertoires today.

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the original ''Basics of Winning Chess'', Andrew Martin is back with version 2.0 of his best-selling DVD. Chess has changed dramatically over the last decade and standards seem higher than ever. We must attempt to keep up! It is often said that the strongest players operate like machines. Once they get a winning position, they win it. Version 2.0 draws extensively from modern chess practice. Virtually all the games are instructive and of high quality. Nearly all are from recent times and many have notes, which you may use for extra study. It gives you a roadmap for improvement. The DVD will be particularly useful for players within the rating band 1200-2200. It is a tour of the modern game.”

A Modern Way to Play the King's Indian - Dejan Bojkov
The Caro Kann is a very tricky opening. Black’s play is based on controlling and fighting for key light squares. I have analyzed the new trends carefully and found some new ideas for Black. The dynamic play based on a strong strategic foundation has always fascinated me, and in these DVDs I have suggested the lines which I personally prefer and employ in practice. Recently at the World Rapid and Blitz Championships at Qatar I used many of them with great success, managing to score important wins over top GMs Vachier Lagrave, Radjabov, Jobava and drawing against Vishy Anand.

Tricks and traps, especially in the opening, are a dangerous reality of competitive chess. On this DVD Davies presents a variety of tricks and traps that can arise after 1.d4 by White, breaking them down into a number of different categories.
TRICKS AND TRAPS - 1. d4 Openings - Nigel Davies - VOLUME 2
Back in the 1950s, it was Botvinnik who popularised the Exchange Variation of the Queen’s Gambit Declined. The setup, which involves putting the knight on e2 in combination with castling kingside, was revolutionary at that time. Until then, White had either placed his knight on f3 with the idea of s tarting a minority attack on the queenside, or on e2, where it was normally associated with the intention of castling queenside and preparing a pawn storm against the Black King. K asparov, Botvinnik’s pupil, would soon follow in his mentor’s footsteps, bringing yet further refinements to this flexible system.
A World Champions Repertoire Against The Queen's Gambit Declined - Robert Ris
