Within the video series there are several chapters, and each chapter comprises a theme for games played between players rated between 1000-1600. Several games are explained and then there are many interactive examples for the viewer to have a go at themselves. Hopefully this will not only help the viewer to improve their own game, but also motivate you to work harder on areas where there may be a weakness. The chapters focus on key areas such as “Tactics”, “Openings”, “Endgames”, “Attacking” etc.

There are, however, many other factors intervening in the opening than the mobility of the respective c-pawns, and this DVD will explore rather rare, yet fully playable lines for Black. Its main body will consist of a Pirc Defence after 1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 Nf6 4.Nc3 g6 where Black has avoided the sharpest variations, at the small cost of being a bit less flexible, since his knight already stands at c6.
The Nasty Nimzowitsch Defence - Christian Bauer
On his new DVD, Sergei Tiviakov presents a complete repertoire for Black against the Queen’s Indian Defence. The grandmaster explains everything one needs to know after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 b6, more profoundly, extensively and thoroughly than ever before - of the total running time of more than 9 hours, 6 hours alone are dedicated to White’s most popular continuation 4.g3.

After the success of the first volume on Calculation Training, Dutch IM Robert Ris continues with “Extreme Calculation Training” — a wide range of new aspects which have to be mastered to become a great calculator at the board! The topics discussed in the original series (candidate moves, method of elimination & imagination) are certainly useful when studying the content of this new video series.

Castled Long - Attacking the King - Valeri Lilov
It is known that pieces are more difficult to handle than pawns – but sometimes they can help each other, e.g. if it is about conquering a square! But what to do once you have gained control over it? How can the advantage of the new stronghold be exploited? All this and much more is shown on this DVD. Special attention is paid to the technique of piece transfer which helps to coordinate different attacks much more effectively. Treated themes: how to create weaknesses, how to conquer and exploit important squares, the powerful helping pawn, piece transfer to strongholds, coordination in the attack.
Pieces, Pawns and Squares - Adrian Mikhalchishin
It’s a problem every player encounters when he stands better in a game: how to convert his plus into a full point? In this DVD the author answers this difficult question of chess strategy, considering both the psychological aspects of the realisation of an advantage and the technical methods.
Realizing the Advantage - Sergei Tiviakov
In the second volume of the Chess Player's Mating Guide, the host pays particular attention to the castled king and in particular on ways of exploiting the weakened kingside. Several well-known themes, pawn formations and other attacking weapons are covered in 8 chapters with the goal to challenge the viewer determining and exploiting the weaknesses. IM Robert Ris has made an interesting selection of famous games as well as games from his own practice to demonstrate the typical ideas exploiting the weaknesses in the pawn formation in front of the castled king. The selected material is a good warm-up for the exercises which are presented at the end to test your knowledge on this topic. By then you at least will have the confidence to claim you have become a dangerous attacking player as Tal, Alekhine, Fischer or any of your other favorites. Watch, learn & enjoy!
The Chess Player's Mating Guide - Weakened Kingside - Robert Ris - Vol. 2
Defending bad or worse positions is very important in the royal game, probably forming one of the most essential aspects of chess strategy altogether. And it is an art one can learn! The purpose of this DVD is to explain the viewer all main methods of defence: exchanging pieces, creating a fortress, eliminating dangerous enemy pieces, escaping the danger zone with the king, improving the position of the pieces. Special attention is paid to counterattack and prophylactic play.

IM Nisha Mohota: “On this DVD I show and explain elements of chess strategy and tactics every player should know. I offer guidelines to steer you through the opening, show basic endgames, help you to understand fundamental pawn structures, and explain principles and patterns of attack and defense.
Strengthen Your Chess Foundation - Nisha Mohota
Which pieces to keep and which to exchange is one of the most important questions in chess. This is true in the opening, the middlegame and the endgame. Less experienced players often think exchanging means to swap pieces of equal value and fail to take strategic factors into account. The "feeling" for the right exchange is something a chessplayer has to develop over time. This DVD wants to help to develop this "feeling“.
How to Exchange Pieces - Elisabeth Pahtz
In this first volume of the new Mating Guide series, the emphasis will be on how to exploit a vulnerably placed king in the centre. With 10 chapters, 20 illustrative games and key themes including a lead in development, preventing castling, the open e-file and different kinds of sacrifices, this DVD will show you everything you need to know to master mid-board showdowns. The level of the content means it is relevant to both beginners as well as master level players - as both elementary examples (also from my own practice) as well as classical attacking games by elite grandmasters are analysed in detail.

GM Nicholas Pert about his DVD: “After the success of my previous DVD Typical mistakes by 1600-1900 players I decided to produce a follow up DVD aimed at players of a slightly higher level. The examples all come from games played by players with a rating between 1800 and 2100. This DVD offers slightly more complex material than the previous DVD, and will hopefully provide an insight into what I believe are the main errors which stop players of this level to be more successful."

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the original ''Basics of Winning Chess'', Andrew Martin is back with version 2.0 of his best-selling DVD. Chess has changed dramatically over the last decade and standards seem higher than ever. We must attempt to keep up! It is often said that the strongest players operate like machines. Once they get a winning position, they win it. Version 2.0 draws extensively from modern chess practice. Virtually all the games are instructive and of high quality. Nearly all are from recent times and many have notes, which you may use for extra study. It gives you a roadmap for improvement. The DVD will be particularly useful for players within the rating band 1200-2200. It is a tour of the modern game.”

As the National Head Coach for the English Chess Federation I train many improving players, and see some typical mistakes that repeat themselves. In this DVD I have taken a large collection of games played by players, predominantly in the rating range 1600-1900, and I have looked for typical mistakes. Each theme has several examples to demonstrate typical mistakes, and there are various test throughout the DVD so that the viewer can try and find the best move in certain positions. This should be a great tool for players to use in order to improve their middlegame and endgame play. It will hopefully also highlight any areas that you need to work on in order to improve quickly. Enjoy the DVD!

In chess, like in real life, one frequently faces temptations: to grab a pawn, to occupy an open file, to start a kingside attack and so on. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with all these ideas, but before undertaking such concrete actions, one should be sure the position is ripe for it. The second DVD deals with the middlegame positions where static factors play a determining part, permanently taking into account the inseparable dynamic and tactical elements. The videos are interactive, featuring training questions in the critical moments. You can further sharpen your skills with the included database, which contains games covering themes that correspond to the ideas presented on the DVD.
Power Strategy 2 - The Middlegame - Static Positions - Mihail Marin
Understanding how to use pawns and how to handle different pawn structures are important topics for young or improving players to consider. On this new ChessBase DVD, IM and FIDE Senior Trainer Andrew Martin investigates the notion that ‘pawns are the soul of chess’ and tries to explain exactly what this means. The effective use of pawns in the opening leads to the correct development of the pieces and a good game springs naturally from there. The pawn structure must be considered throughout the game and this is something that Martin also touches upon. The viewer will be treated to a tour of excellent games, both old and new, many from the period 2012-2014, which highlight key ideas about the correct use of pawns and from which one cannot fail to improve one’s technique. Thus this DVD is ideal for players below 1800 or indeed ambitious players of any level.

CHESS FOR NOVICES - Sabrina Chevannes - VOLUME 2
Chess is turning into a young mans game. Time limits are faster, sessions last longer and computer databases and playing engines seem to dominate opening preparation. Add the fact that older players often have jobs and families that take most of their time and its no surprise they suffer painful defeats at the hands of spotty youths.
How to Beat Younger Players - Nigel Davies
In this 7th Power Play DVD, Daniel King helps you to recognize when a piece is poorly placed and what to do about it. Throughout the DVD, specially selected positions will enable you to test your understanding of the subject.

On this Fritz-Trainer DVD, Maurice Ashley reveals a simple idea that will forever change the way that you see chess. He shares the secret he discovered on his path to the grandmaster title, a secret that every player must understand in order to reach the highest level.
The Secret to Chess - Maurice Ashley
Almost all the chess pieces (except for the tricky knights) have the ability to move along straight lines, whether vertically (files), horizontally (ranks) or on the diagonals. These straight lines, which connect different areas of the board and give the pieces the chance to decide the outcome of the battle, are most important in chess, and thus the title - highways. Understanding the abilities of the pieces is absolutely crucial for every player, from beginner to master. In a game of chess you are the general, and the pieces are your soldiers - the better your relationship with your soldiers - the better your results. In his third DVD for ChessBase, GM Dejan Bojkov from Bulgaria gives you an insight into the properties of those pieces which move in straight lines, and tips of how to best exploit the open diagonals, ranks and files to get the maximum out of each piece. In 30 clips you will find out how to better understand your major pieces and exploit the open and half open files; you will learn what their fears are, and how you can help them. The DVD contains at the end a training session to better promote the understanding of the material. It is an invaluable handbook for both chess players and trainers. Video running time: 5 hours 38 min.
Chess Highways - Dejan Bojkov
Queen against two rooks or three minor pieces, as well as a rook plus pawn vs two minor pieces - these are typical constellations where the material is unbalanced. In our first steps in chess we are taught about the nominal value of the pieces. The queen is equal to nine pawns; a rook to five, a minor piece is worth three pawns. This is a common sense solution aimed at teaching the beginner a system of values so that he or she does not trade a more valuable piece for a less good one. Later however, situations occur in games in which one side can trade two minor pieces (six pawns) for a rook and a pawn (also six pawns). Theoretically speaking, this should result in an equal position, but in reality one of the two sides will profit from the exchange.
The True Value of Pieces - Dejan Bojkov
You think you have seen enough checkmating combinations? I find it staggering how many checkmates are missed (by both sides) in games by the top players, let alone by us mortals. Recognizing the early outlines of mating patterns is a vital skill, not just for an attacker, but for a defender too.
POWER PLAY - Mating Patterns - Daniel King - VOLUME 1
n this 3rd DVD in the Power Play series, Grandmaster Daniel King examines more devilish methods of attacking the castled king - this time by means of a pawn storm.

You might be a brilliant tactician or a fearsome attacker, but you won’t always be able to apply these skills when you play.
