History of the Chess Pieces
The newest Frank Camaratta Signature Series addition to the House of Staunton Russian series is the iconic Mikhail (Misha) Tahl Chessmen. These chessmen areshown in the iconic photograph of Tahl on the cover of The Life and Games of Mickail Tahl, by Everyman Chess. The photo shows the intensity of Tahl’s concentration over the chessboard as well as his trademark demonic gave. Former Worlds Champion Mikhail Tahl is recognized as one of the games greatest tacticians.
This extremely accurate recreation is based on a set of the actual pieces, not derived from images, which often belie the true size and proportions of the pieces. This is the most accurate reproduction of the Tahl chessmen in the market.
These chessmen have been used in Major Grandmaster Tournaments and Matches in the former Soviet Union since the 1940s. Shown here is an image of the Tahl chessmen with Former Women’s Champion Nona Gaprindashvilli.
The pieces can also be seen in use in another landmark game between Yuri Averbakh and Tigran Petrosyan.
As with all Camaratta Signature Chessmen, the quality and accuracy of these chessmen is unsurpassed. The chess pieces are heavily weighted and are available in Natural and Ebonized or Red Stained, Antiqued and Black lacquered, and Lacquered Anjan finishes.
