I like this box. I can fit my Classic series chess set with 4.4 in. King and both queens. I did had to remove a "pillow from each compartment. The configuration that works for me is to put the king and queens laying down on 1 side and put the Knights, BIshops, and Rooks standing upright and basically fill the gaps with the pawns.
