Product Description

Musketeer Chess is a modern Chess variant invented by Dr Zied Haddad. In musketeer Chess, the basic rules of chess are followed. Musketeer Chess employs a Standard 8x8 chessboard with a Standard Staunton Chess set. But we add for both armies two of the new Chess Variants (There is choice of more than 10 pieces). Rules for Musketeer Chess can be downloaded at www.musketeerchess.com. The new chess pieces are designed to be Staunton-compatible, hence can easily be used as replacements or substitutes to customize classic Staunton pattern chess sets or create your own chess variant.

The purpose behind the development of Musketeer Chess was to make chess more fun and exciting and to avoid long, over-analyzed opening lines. Players can now rely on their own inventiveness and creativity.

The physical design of chess variants presented here are the creative work of Frank Camaratta, IM and founder of The House of Staunton.

Fortress and Unicorn Kit

The Fortress is another heavy piece with different capabilities from the already available chess variants.

Fortress

The top tower of the Fortress is pegged, so that the tops of the light and dark units can be interchanged (to handle with care).

The Unicorn is an enhanced version of the Classic Chess Knight. It moves like a Knight but has expanded jumping capabilities.

History of the Chess Pieces
Musketeer chess is a modern chess variant invented by FIDE Master Dr. Zied HADDAD. The design of the chessmen is the creative work of Frank Camaratta, Founder of The House of Staunton.    In musketeer Chess, the basic rules of chess are followed. Musketeer Chess employs a Standard 8x8 chessboard and House of Staunton Marshall Series or Collector Series chessmen. In Musketeer Chess, both armies benefit from the addition of two of the new Variant chessmen.    The new pieces such as the Chancellor and the Archbishop can also be used for other chess variants such as Gothic Chess, Seirawan Chess and C-Chess.    The new chess variants are designed to be Staunton-compatible, hence can easily be used as replacements or substitutes  for the enthusiast who wants to customize their classic Staunton chess set.  Or, perhaps, you have invented your own chess variant and are looking for distinctive alternate designs that are compatible with a set of Classic Staunton chessmen.    There are currently 6 new Musketeer Chess pieces available exclusively through The House of Staunton (Elephant, Hawk, Leopard, Cannon, Archbishop and Chancellor). In the months ahead, five new chess variants will be available to complete the collection (Dragon, Unicorn, Fortress and Spider and A super PAWN). The complete rules of Musketeer Chess can be downloaded from www.musketeerchess.com, musketeerchess@gmail.com for any question concerning the Musketeer Chess Variant
Customer Reviews
  1. Great design, quality, and concept

The pieces are very well designed and made, with appropriate weighting. as in beautifully designed Unicorn, and sturdy fortress with interchangeable top to mix colors. These pieces do have various historic move patterns, but the set only gives diagrams for the moves he designers suggested. They do recognize that they can be used any way the customer wishes.
