    Catalog Code: CB0490RB

Tartakover's book is still virtually unknown in the West, and therein lies the interest of the present work. In addition, our editorial comments (shown by 'RR') cover points not discussed by Tartakover and, where necessary, correct his notes. CLEARANCE - A Selection of Chess Problems
    Catalog Code: CB0529RB

This work has two purposes. One is to make the best of Klett's problems more widely available to a modern audience. The other is to introduce problems themselves to chess enthusiasts who are not yet familiar with them, for Klett's problems are very suitable for this purpose; the play in them is a kind of readily appreciated by players, and the best of them have rarely if ever been surpassed.

    CLEARANCE - Howard Staunton
    the English world chess champion
    Catalog Code: CB0199RB

Howard Staunton (1810 - 22 June 1874) was an English chess master who is generally regarded as having been the world's strongest player from 1843 to 1851. He promoted a chess set of clearly distinguishable pieces of standardised shape that is still the style which must be used for competitions. He was the principal organizer of the first international chess tournament in 1851. From 1840 onwards he became a leading chess commentator, and won matches against top players of the 1840s. However, the achievement of Staunton have been neglected or even ignored by his own countrymen and this book seeks to rectify that.
