Book Introduction:
For more than a quarter of a century until his death in 1935, Aron Nimzowitsch was recognised as one of the world's leading players. The leading Grandmaster of the Hypermodern school, his games were full of new ideas and plans, which were accompanied by landmarks in chess literature such as My System and Chess Praxis. Challenging old theories, his books are regarded as being the best teaching manuals and have strongly withstood the test of time.
Raymond Keene has covered Nimzowitsch's career in detail, continuing the themes of My System and drawing on Nimzowitsch's own notes, which had not appeared in English before this book. A wide selection of the Grandmaster's games are included, along with a detailed analysis of his influence on modern opening play. Modern players owe a great debt to Nimzowitsch, whose deep conceptions and masterpieces of positional play have led to his widespread appreciation as the Master of Planning.
