introduces its latest creation, the exquisite Empire Series Chessmen.
With a strong hint of the Art Deco look that is reminiscent of the
1920s, the design of these Chessmen is fresh and their tactile feel is
pleasant. No Chessmen before have been able to so completely capture the
essence of a serious set of chessmen while at the same time maintaining a
look of such elegance, simplicity, durability and clarity. The pieces seem
to “melt” and conform to your hand. They just feel right.
While
the design of the Chessmen is elegant, don't
let that fool you - This set is fully functional and ideal for all types
of Chess play. The chessmen are designed to take abuse while retaining an
elegance and aesthetic beauty that has not previously been seen in a
playing chess set at any price. There are no fragile details subject to
breakage, such as collars, ball finials and Queen’s crenellations
normally found in conventional Staunton chessmen. These Chessmen look
great and play even better!
The Empire Series Chessmen features
a majestic 4.5" King with a 1.875" diameter base and
weighs an incredible 87 ounces (not including additional Queens). The
set is supplied with four Queens in two distinct styles. This adds
interest to the presentation and allows the promoted Queen to be
differentiated from the original.
It also comes with gold embossed leather
pads on both Kings, a personalized Certificate of Authenticity and an
original manufacturer's label indicating the production number is affixed
to the underside of each box. The
chessmen are housed in a premium Red Burlwood box with brass quadrant
hinges and a full mortise lock and key. The interior of the box is divided
and lined in billiard cloth. The box may be upgraded to a fitted Briefcase
or a fitted Coffer with removable trays.
Each set consists of 34 Chessmen, 17 light and 17 dark (including the two
additional Queens.)
