The House of Staunton is proud to offer our heirloom quality Collector Series Chessmen crafted from premium Ebonized Boxwood . This heavily weighted set has been crafted to replicate the exquisite design and proportions of the original Staunton pattern Chessmen, registered by Nathaniel Cook in March of 1849 and first manufactured by Jaques of London in September 1849. The distinctive feature of this set is the the open-mitered Bishop and our Knight design, which is modeled after the noble steeds from the Greek Parthenon (Elgin Marbles) and are unsurpassed in beauty and craftsmanship. These are far superior to any production Staunton pattern chess set available today - at ANY PRICE! This full tournament-sized set features a 4.0" King, weighs an incredible 66 ounces. The Collector Series Chessmen come with gold embossed leather pads on both Kings, a personalized Certificate of Authenticity and an original manufacturer's label indicating the production number is affixed to the underside of each box. The Chessmen are new and come housed in a premium House of Staunton Red Burl box which is lined in green billiard cloth, divided and features brass quadrant hinges and a lock & key. The House of Staunton logo is laser etched on the lid of the box. The board is a House of Staunton
Superior
Traditional wooden Chessboard with 2.375" squares. It features a
solid mahogany frame and the squares are made from Rosewood (Dark) and
Bird's Eye Maple (Light). The boards are 3/4" thick, have a rich
satin finish and are imported from Europe.
