Manufactured in the United States, our Granite Superior Traditional Chessboards are an impressive 3cm (over 1") thick, Gray/Black in color, and feature a gorgeous laser-etched decorative Frame including the House of Staunton Logo on the corner (which can be seen below).

Granite is a virtually indestructible material that is known for its aesthetic beauty and long life. It is one of the strongest, most durable materials in the world and can withstand years of the most severe of abuse without even the slightest blemish. Please consider that many of the Egyptian Pyramids, including the legendary Red Pyramid, were constructed from Granite nearly 5,000 years ago and are still standing! If Granite can withstand thousands of years of sandstorms and unrelenting heat, it can withstand virtually anything you can do to it!

Skeptical? We at the House of Staunton were skeptical as well. We tried our best to leave even the slightest mark on the board and couldn't! We spent 20 minutes trying everything we could think of to damage the board, including

Cutting / Slicing / Stabbing it with a Knife and Box Cutter
Dropping 1" Steel Ball Bearings on it
Throwing both Wooden and Polyresin (Isle of Lewis) Chessmen at the board - Smashing the Pieces

But we couldn't leave a single mark on the Chessboard. No matter what we did, the board came out perfect!

WARNING - DO NOT BE FOOLED BY CHEAP MARBLE CHESSBOARDS! MARBLE IS A VERY SOFT MATERIAL, BEGIN TO SHOW SIGNS OF DAMAGE ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AND ARE NOTORIOUS FOR BEING DAMAGED IN TRANSIT! THIS IS 100% GENUINE GRANITE AND IS VIRTUALLY INDESTRUCTIBLE!
