How to Crack the Berlin Wall with 5. Re1 - Alexei Shirov
    Catalog Code: WIN0503CB

The Berlin Defence which arises after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nf6 4.O-O Nxe4 gives White a hard nut to crack, and the solidity of the line led to its nickname “Berlin Wall”. The mainline 5.d4 in particular leads to positions in which White has had trouble to prove any advantage. On this DVD Latvian top player Alexei Shirov proposes a different approach. He recommends to play 5.Re1 which leads to a symmetrical position that according to Shirov is not boring at all. With a whole range of grandmaster games Shirov shows that White can indeed develop pressure and seize the initiative and that the position is full of subtleties.

1.e4 e5 - An Active Repertoire for Black - Adrian Mikhalchishin
    Catalog Code: WIN0352CB

For young and developing players a very important piece of advice is to study open positions and to understand the value of coordination of the pieces plus the role of the centre. These goals can be achieved just by answering 1.e4 with 1...e5. Some players claim that these positions are not sharp and interesting enough, and they believe that different Sicilians should be one’s choice, but that is not completely correct. The idea of this DVD is to show that 1.e4 e5 can be extremely entertaining and that Black can obtain interesting counterplay in every opening. There are two lines proposed in the Spanish systems plus the most active alternatives against other white choices. Video running time: 6 h 48 min. Opening
    Catalog Code: WIN0401CB

This DVD is intended in the first line to offer strategical guidance for Black on the Leningrad Dutch, based on the examination of the most typical structures. For objectivity’s sake I have examined both sides of the medal, putting the main strategic dangers aside with the typical plans. I have included all my earlier database articles published in Chessbase Magazine, a database with all the games to which I have referred in the videos as well as a small database with essential games that one should know.

The English Opening - Simon WIlliams - VOL. 1
    Catalog Code: WIN0463CB

This English Opening was my first love and this was the opening that I used to progress from the rank amateur player to 2400+ International Master. I will now share my secrets of this opening with you, in the hope that the English Opening can help you improve in a similar way. My main teaching method behind this set of two DVDs is to teach you some simple yet effective set ups, without the need to rely on memorising numerous complicated variations. I have explained what you are trying to achieve with each move and set up, then you will know what plans to put into motion in the middlegame and endgame.

    POWER PLAY - Attacking with 1. e4 - PART II - Daniel King - VOLUME 19
    Catalog Code: WIN0443CB

This DVD provides you with a repertoire of attacking lines against: The Scandinavian, Alekhine’s Defence, The Petroff, The Philidor, The Pirc, The Modern Defence (1. e4 g6). Many of these openings are very popular in club chess, yet they are often underestimated by players of the white pieces. Using his wealth of experience playing with 1 e4, Grandmaster Daniel King explains the openings and provides you with an aggressive system against each of them. This is the second part of Daniel King’s project ‘Attack with 1 e4’ (part I dealt with the Sicilian, the French, The Caro Kann and 1...e5). King’s recommendations aim to put your opponent under pressure right from the start of the game, and when players are under pressure, mistakes occur. This is a practical repertoire – if we study openings we want to be sure to use them in our games. After just a few moves, you will be dictating play.

    Catalog Code: WIN0120CB

Many chessplayers consider Albin’s Countergambit (1.d4 d5 2.c4 e5) nothing more than a relict of romantic chess, connecting with it – at most – the names of the old masters like Lasker, Aljechin, Janowski, Marshall and Keres.

    A Dynamic Weapon Against the Queen's Gambit Decline - 5. bf4 - Simon Williams
    Catalog Code: WIN0456CB

This DVD concentrates on the increasingly popular 5.Bf4 variation of the Queen’s Gambit Declined and gives White a dynamic and aggressive weapon against Black’s set-up. White puts his bishop on f4 to avoid the exchanges that often occur after 5.Bg5 and as early as possible wants to put pressure on Black. At the highest level the variation with 5.Bf4 has become much more popular than the more traditional 5.Bg5 line. Top players such as Alexei Shirov, Vladimir Kramnik, Levon Aronian, Wesley So and Anish Giri play it, and Vishy Anand used it in his only victory over Carlsen in the 2014 World Chess Championship. This DVD recommends dynamic lines for White against all set-ups by Black and gives you a good, aggressive, and reliable weapon against the Queen’s Gambit Declined.

Winning with the Ruy Lopez 2 - Viktor Bologan
    Steinitz, Anti-Marshall, Open & Co.
    Catalog Code: WIN0345CB

Really, among the open games the only opening with which White can really fight for an advantage in the long term is the Ruy Lopez. But in order to make this serious effort, he has buckle down and learn a whole series of sub-variations. That is what the professionals do, including of course Viktor Bologan, who now reveals the secrets of his own grandmaster repertoire. On his second Ruy Lopez DVD Viktor Bologan shows how things continue after 3...a6 4.Ba4. Black has some possible deviations before we reach the main lines which are dealt with in Part 3. These include the solid Steinitz Defence and the Archangelsk Variation which has again been brought up to date. In the Open Ruy Lopez quite different types of positions are reached - and White need to understand these too. And our author prefers to avoid the Marshall Attack - so he suggests the Anti-Marshall beginning with 8.h3. Video running time: 5 hrs 20 min. Winning Against King's Indian with the Main Line - Mihail Marin
    Catalog Code: WIN0448CB

In the classical system of the King’s Indian White develops naturally and refrains from chasing ghosts looking for a refutation of Black’s set-up. White instead relies on the fact that natural play should yield him a small but lasting advantage. Many great players of the past and the present have used and use this system successfully. The videos explaining the Mar del Plata Attack (which form the main part of this DVD) offer strategic guidance and show typical tactical ideas, while presenting a detailed, solid and aggressive repertoire.

The Complex Najdorf - A Complete Repertoire for Black - GM Victor Bologan
    Catalog Code: WIN0480CB

When choosing an opening repertoire, it is common to consider two types of variations. One is usually a solid opening, like 1...e5 against 1.e4, with plenty of strategical ideas and quiet paths of play. However, there are of course days when you want to play for a win with Black, when you want to bear down on your opponent’s position with a potentially crushing attack. The Najdorf is perfect for just such occasions – and it’s no coincidence that Garry Kasparov played it the most out of all the variations in the Sicilian – the opening served him well throughout his brilliant career. I myself have played it with both colours, but even I discover more to its endless depths every day! Strategy, combinations, attack and defence, sacrifices and marvelous manoeuvres – exciting chess is all about the Najdorf!
