    KOMODO CHESS 10
    64 Bit Multiprocessor Version
    Catalog Code: WIN0428CB

Thanks to a host of extensive improvements and fine tweaking, the latest version of Komodo has again gained over 60 Elo points on its predecessor. The changes cover several areas: the evaluation function has been significantly sharpened, particularly with respect to king safety and endgame positions, and the search algorithm has been improved and optimized to run on multiple processors. Komodo 10 is also better at managing its time, and just generally calculates faster.

    Semi-Tarrasch - A Universal Weapon Against 1. d4 - Mihail Marin
    Catalog Code: WIN0484CB

Even though the Semi-Tarrasch cannot offer a complete repertoire against 1.d4, being conditioned of White’s move order, it is an excellent complement to the Nimzoindian Defence. Moreover, it is a viable way of escaping the strategic pressure in the Exchange Queen’s Gambit while also presenting a reliable weapon against the main Symmetrical English systems

A Black Repertoire Against Offbeat Openings - GM Nicholas Pert
    Catalog Code: WIN0482CB

Many club players have their favourite pet opening variations which aren’t necessarily main lines. It’s important to know how to handle these variations as your opponent will likely know his systems well. In this DVD I provide a detailed Black repetoire against many of these Offbeat Opening choices. The lines I have covered include Pseudo – Trompowsky (1.d4 d5 2. Bg5), London Systems (1.d4 with an early Bf4), Torre Attack (1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 e6 and 3. Bg5), Veresov (1.d4 Nf6 2. Nc3 d5 3. Bg5), Blackmar-Diemer Gambit (1.d4 d5 2. e4), Kings Indian Attack (1.Nf3 2.g3 3. Bg2), 1.b4, 1.b3, 1.f4, 1.g3 and 1.g4.

Currently this is the most testing way to challenge players who prefer the Nimzo. White develops sensibly - but has aggressive intentions in mind! On this DVD, I will tell you everything you need to know to play this way as White, but the DVD will also be of interest to players who are unsure what to do against 3 Nf3 - giving you a repertoire with Black as well

The Complex Najdorf - A Complete Repertoire for Black - GM Victor Bologan
    Catalog Code: WIN0480CB

When choosing an opening repertoire, it is common to consider two types of variations. One is usually a solid opening, like 1...e5 against 1.e4, with plenty of strategical ideas and quiet paths of play. However, there are of course days when you want to play for a win with Black, when you want to bear down on your opponent’s position with a potentially crushing attack. The Najdorf is perfect for just such occasions – and it’s no coincidence that Garry Kasparov played it the most out of all the variations in the Sicilian – the opening served him well throughout his brilliant career. I myself have played it with both colours, but even I discover more to its endless depths every day! Strategy, combinations, attack and defence, sacrifices and marvelous manoeuvres – exciting chess is all about the Najdorf!

The level of the content means it is relevant to both beginners as well as master level players - as both elementary examples (also from my own practice) as well as classical attacking games by elite grandmasters are analysed in detail.

Typical Mistakes by 1800-2000 Players - Nicholas Pert
    Catalog Code: WIN0477CB

GM Nicholas Pert about his DVD: “After the success of my previous DVD Typical mistakes by 1600-1900 players I decided to produce a follow up DVD aimed at players of a slightly higher level. The examples all come from games played by players with a rating between 1800 and 2100. This DVD offers slightly more complex material than the previous DVD, and will hopefully provide an insight into what I believe are the main errors which stop players of this level to be more successful."

    King's Indian - A Modern Approach - Victor Bologan
    Catalog Code: WIN0475CB

Author Victor Bologan about his DVD: “If chess players are in Iceland, they usually pay tribute to the genius of Bobby Fischer, the 11th World Champion, by visiting his grave in Selfoss in Reykjavik. With this DVD I also want to express my gratitude to Fischer: for his great contribution to chess in general and because he helped to make the King’s Indian more popular in particular. As a junior, when I was ten years old, my coach advised me to study the openings of Fischer and I discovered the King’s Indian. Later I learned about the different approaches Black has in the King’s Indian. He can keep his structure flexible and put his pawns on d6 and c6; he can play the sharp and principled Nc6 in the classical lines and in some sidelines he can sacrifice a pawn with …b5 as in the Benko.

Mihail Marin sees in Karpov’s play great similarities to Magnus Carlsen: by the time the opponent understands what is happening, it is already too late. For endgame expert Dr. Karsten Müller, Anatoly Karpov is “a living legend”. The DVD is divided into two parts. In the first section, we look at what happens when White avoids the endgame in the “Anti-Berlin” systems, while the second section deals with the Berlin ending. On this DVD, Pavel Eljanov, one of the greatest experts of the Breyer variation, shows all important variations of this system. In 14 video lectures he gives an overview of the current state of theory.

Transpositions into other openings and structures are common, making it an ideal weapon for playing to win as Black against booked up opposition. On this DVD Nigel Davies shows how ...b6 lines can be used to enhance an existing French Defence repertoire (for example with 1.d4 e6 2.c4 b6!?) and provide answers to 1.Nf3 and 1.c4. He also shows how 1...b6 can be used as a defence against 1.e4, for players who want to play for a win and do not mind taking risks.

Typical Mistakes by 1600-1900 Players - Nicholas Pert
    Catalog Code: WIN0459CB

As the National Head Coach for the English Chess Federation I train many improving players, and see some typical mistakes that repeat themselves. In this DVD I have taken a large collection of games played by players, predominantly in the rating range 1600-1900, and I have looked for typical mistakes. Each theme has several examples to demonstrate typical mistakes, and there are various test throughout the DVD so that the viewer can try and find the best move in certain positions. This should be a great tool for players to use in order to improve their middlegame and endgame play. It will hopefully also highlight any areas that you need to work on in order to improve quickly. Enjoy the DVD!

MASTER CLASS - Jose Raul Capablanca - VOL. 4
    Catalog Code: WIN0450CB

He was a child prodigy and he is surrounded by legends. In his best times he was considered to be unbeatable and by many he was reckoned to be the greatest chess talent of all time: Jose Raul Capablanca, born 1888 in Havana. At the age of 13 he became Cuban champion; in 1909 he sensationally defeated Marshall by 8:1 and was thus catapulted into the world elite. It was only after some time, since only sparse amounts of information made it across the pond, that in 1911 Capablanca achieved well-deserved recognition by leaving the elite of world chess trailing in his wake in San Sebastian. It would however take another 10 years before the Cuban defeated the reigning world champion Emanuel Lasker in their match and wore the crown himself.
