THE CHESSMEN

Marvels of grace, balance, beauty and simplicity... This is THE classic set that established a worldwide standard used since the mid-19th C. Study the King's crown and Queen's coronet, details of bishops and rooks, knights modeled after marble stallion heads from the Parthenon, on down to the diminutive pawn. Admire the simple, yet elegant contours. Well-weighted. Shaped to hold, to touch, to admire... To be gazed at in unwavering and total concentration.

This Authentic Models production is a detailed replica of an original ivory set manufactured by the British 'Jaques' company, circa 1850, and purchased at a 1990s London auction. English chess master, Howard Staunton, promoted this set at the first international chess tournament in 1851. It's clearly distinguishable pieces soon became the competition standard known as the 'Staunton' set. The Chessmen are new and each set consists of 32 Chessmen. They are manufactured from polyresin, a crushed stone composite that gives it the feel and weight of stone, but the durability of a plastic.

THE CHESSBOARD

The Classic Traditional Chessboard offers unmatched luxury at a very affordable price. It features Walnut (dark) and Maple (light) squares with a raised Cherry frame. The Chessboard has a satin finish and 1.75" squares.

The Black Slide Top Box is lined in green velour, divided and is ideal for a full tournament-sized set of Chessmen.
