tournament-size set is fabricated from boxwood and either jet-black
ebony or
Bud Rosewood.. The King stands 3-7/8"
tall with a 1-5/8"
diameter base. The
set of chessmen ships standard with four (4) Queens.
No more upside-down Rooks! The 32 chessmen weigh an impressive 54
ounces! In addition to the standard Formeé
cross finial, the King can also be fitted with a more sturdy Eastern
finial, which is included. These chessmen are designed
to play on a chessboard with 2-1/4" or 2-3/8" squares.
These unusual
masterpieces are crafted to capture in design and proportion the
relative value of the individual chessmen, a unique feature found in
no other set of Staunton chessmen. No longer to you have to suffer
through sets with huge, hulking Knights and diminutive Rooks. This
unique, robust design has a very uniform look with broad bases
and heavy pedestals. Notice the old-world feel and design of the
Bishop and the superb carving of the Knight.
The
design, quality, workmanship and finish of each House
of Staunton chess piece is superb. The chessmen are
cushioned in green billiard cloth. The quality of these chessmen can

This chess set
comes housed in a beautiful, divided, red mahogany-stained Burlwood
box. Rather than use cheap barrel hinges or butt hinges, our boxes are
equipped with polished solid brass quadrant hinges, lock and
key - the right (and expensive) way to do it! In addition, they are
lined in luxurious dark green
billiard cloth. Each House of
Staunton set comes with an original
manufacturer's label indicating its unique production number.
