The House of Staunton now offers
our New Liberty Series chessmen,
an adaptation of a popular American design first advertised in 1941. These
sets were used in most major chess clubs throughout the States until around
1960 and were the set of choice for many major tournaments held in the U.S.
during that period. The pieces feature a very robust design with thick collars
and no delicate frills to chip or break during hard usage. So confident
were the manufacturers of the indestructibility of their new design that
they unconditionally guaranteed each piece for life! With the advent of
Blitz and Bughouse, we're not so adventurous, although this is unquestionably
the best set of chessmen for blitz play you can buy! The pieces are available
in a natural and black lacquered finish for improved durability. A polished
boxwood and rosewood version is also available. The set is housed in a genuine
black (or burgundy for the rosewood set) lined and cushioned leatherette
case.
