The House of Staunton Contest Rules:

Scratch and Win Official Rules

1) No purchase necessary to participate. You may obtain a game piece without purchase and a full set of rules by sending a self-addressed business size envelope postmarked no later than 08/31/08 to:

Limit: one game piece per request. Game begins at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on 11/01/07 and ends at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on 08/31/2008, or upon distribution of all game pieces, whichever occurs first. 

2) Employees of the House of Staunton, The United States Chess Federation, UbiSoft, and all affiliated companies and their immediate families (dependents under IRS definitions) are not eligible to participate. Entrants must be 18 years of age or over on or before 11/01/07.

3) By claiming a prize, winner consents to the House of Staunton to use of their name and photograph in advertising without compensation. Further, by accepting a prize, winner agrees to not assert any claims and agrees to release The House of Staunton, its parent company and affiliated companies and third party prize contributors/suppliers from any and all liabilities, injuries or damages sustained in connection with the award or use of the prize(s). Winners of prizes valued at over $1,000.00 will be required to complete and return an "Acknowledgement of Eligibility" prior to receiving any prize.

4) Winners are solely responsible for reporting winnings and paying all applicable taxes. The House of Staunton  reserves the right to award cash or some other substitute of equal or greater value in lieu of the prizes.

5) Winners are responsible for all shipping charges to have their prize delivered.

6) Limit: Only one game piece per mail in request. Game ends once all game pieces are distributed or on 8/31/09. No mechanically reproduced mail in requests will be accepted.

7) HOW TO PLAY: Scratch off the area indicated on your game card to see if you are an instant winner. 

8) PRIZES: The House of Staunton  intends to award a total of 6  prizes and the rest will be discounts off your next purchase. 200,000 game pieces will be printed.

First Prize: The Sultan Series Chessmen in Blood Rosewood. ARV $1079.00
Second Prize: The Parthenon Series Chessmen in Red and Ivory Lacquered . ARV $699.00
Third Prize: The Reykjavik II Series Chessmen in Genuine Ebony. ARV $295.00

9) ODDS OF WINNING AN INSTANT PRIZE OR DISCOUNT: (must be filled in for each prize)

Prize Number Available Odds of Winning: The odds of winning a Chess set are 3 in 100,000.

10) PRIZE CLAIM INSTRUCTIONS: 
i) Make a photocopy of the winning game piece for yourself.
ii) Attach the original game piece to a 3 x 5 card.
iii) Write your name, address and a daytime and evening phone number on the 3x5 card.
iv) Place the 3x5 card in an envelope and mail it VIA CERTIFIED MAIL, RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED to:

(v) Once the game piece is received and its authenticity is verified, an affidavit of eligibility will be mailed to each winner at the address provided on the 3x5 card.
vi) Sign and return the Affidavit of Eligibility to The House of Staunton at the address provided within ten (10) days.
vii) Upon receipt by The House of Staunton  of the signed Affidavit of Eligibility, you will receive either written or verbal instructions from The House of Staunton on how to obtain the prize.

To obtain prizes, these instructions and/or the instructions on each game piece must be followed. The House of Staunton reserves the right to withhold a prize or disqualify any person who does not comply with these instructions. Prizes must be claimed no later than 12/31/09. Any unclaimed prizes will not be awarded.

11) GENERAL CONDITIONS: Giveaway is open to all US residents, who are U.S. citizens or legal immigrants. Participants must be at least 18 years of age to qualify for any of the prizes. Void where prohibited / restricted. All federal, state and local laws apply. Paying and reporting taxes (if any) are the winner's sole responsibility. Prizes may not be substituted, transferred or exchanged, except at the sole discretion of The Huose of Staunton. The House of Staunton  is not responsible for illegible, damaged, lost, late or misdirected mail entries, or game materials. All submissions become property of The House of Staunton. All game materials are subject to verification and are automatically void and will be rejected if any part(s) is forged, altered, defaced, tampered with, mechanically reproduced or modified, irregular in any way, irregularly obtained, or if they contain printing errors or omissions or are result of error. Liability for any irregular game material is limited to replacement of game piece while supplies last. Should more prizes be claimed in any category than offered in the rules, the prizes offered will be awarded in a random drawing among all verified prize claimants in that category. All prize awards are subject to verification of eligibility. The House of Staunton  reserve the right to refuse game cards to any customers who in their sole determination abuse their right to participate or violate the rules and to accelerate or modify method of distribution if necessary.

12) REDEMPTION OF DISCOUNTS: The Discount Coupons that are awarded as part of the contest may be redeemed towards the purchase of any item shown on this website (houseofstaunton.com). Discount Coupons can not be combined with any other discounts, including other Discount Coupons, other than Membership Discount for House of Staunton's Collectors Club Members. There is a limit of one (1) Discount Coupon that can be redeemed with each order. Only purchased made directly through House of Staunton are eligible for redemptions. Purchases made through third parties are not eligible.
